A group of people sat at a dark, dank bar in a shabby neighborhood in Detroit. A dusty television in the corner of the bar was broadcasting a Pistons basketball game. A song played in the background. A few of the regulars watched, feigning interest in the proceedings. Most were lost in small talk or waxing poetic about their exploits from years past. The bartender wiped the bar and washed some glasses.
Suddenly, the set began to flicker and then morph from the game on the court into a close-up of a blurry face of a woman-like being of indeterminable age. As the face came into focus, there was something about her gaze that was unsettling yet riveting. One could not help but stare at her or, more importantly, her eyes! Her silver eyes were piercing, illuminating. She had the look of an ancient Egyptian goddess, familiar yet otherworldly. She was intoxicating.
Simultaneously, the sound from the television suddenly jumped several decibels as the jukebox sputtered and stopped.
The charismatic entity spoke calmly and clearly in a hypnotic but galvanizing monotone, and she spoke in every language on every electronic device to every human on Earth:
"You do not know me, but after this transmission, many will, though it may not immediately impact you, your family, your friends, and neighbors. It might be difficult for most of you watching me now to understand that humans—your bodies, your souls—are all but small particles in a giant collective consciousness that makes up everything, everything in this ever-expanding and grand universe. A concept that a select few humans have always understood, but many refused to accept."
At that same time, a couple—she a curvy, aspiring starlet with flaxen hair and he a bloated, toad-like power broker from a storied entertainment company—lie in bed, exhausted after consummating their carnal lust. Both were now wide awake, riveted by the message from this seductive siren on a large plasma screen built into the master bedroom wall of his sprawling Beverly Hills estate.
"Call it divine energy, call it rapture, call it the eternal mystery manifest. Most of you will soon know that other alien races, some even on Earth, coexist on many different levels of reality. Imagine it as a multi-dimensional chess game. And humans trapped on this plane of reality can tap into this collective energy field with some practice and assistance."
An indigenous South American family of four sat crosslegged on a dirt floor, eating dinner from a makeshift table. The husband grunted at his wife; she quickly poured him another beverage. Their two raven-haired teenage children—a boy and a girl—sat slack-jawed, glued to the image on the set.
"The shamans, medicine men from primitive cultures, understood this universal mind, this ethereal body. Understood that your plane of reality has no physical boundaries so that you can tap into a place devoid of worries, pain and suffering, war and hatred."
A well-dressed, middle-aged man from a private Swiss lending institution stopped talking on the phone and started banging on the keys of his computer, trying in vain to make the image of the strange person go away. Finally, after several minutes, he leaned back on his leather chair, folded his hands behind his head, and listened.
"Your current plane of reality is filled with many falsehoods. That more is better, that salvation can be bought and sold. That great wealth can end suffering. Yet suffering endures. The disparity of wealth only widens when a few own everything. And all will suffer in the end."
Two posh, fashionable women sat in a cafe in Paris, scrolling through their social media posts on expensive mobile phones. They both shrieked. It was as if the alluring creature spoke directly to them on every post they scrolled to.
"Let your possessions go, and your ego evaporates. Try to understand that material things will not buy your freedom or your happiness. Trying to buy youth will not bring back your youth. These false trappings will never nourish you. Nor will they serve or save you. Find peace within."
In a tiny village in a hot, arid climate, a group of holy men worshipped in a prayer hut. They were startled by the sudden chatter on a broken radio sitting on a small table in the half-lit room. They immediately looked at the radio and listened.
"Do you think the male is the only recipient of divine knowledge? That the energy of a female does not hold the same place in worship or life? That only a man can offer a path to salvation? I am here to tell you that the universal energy transcends the masculine and the feminine. The divine energy vibrates the same for all sentient beings."
A group of emaciated Asian inmates sat in a cold, soulless mess hall in a high-security prison. Over the loudspeakers, they heard the entity’s calm voice rise above the frantic shouts of the prison guards trying to silence the cosmic message.
"No human can hold justice over those who push against the corruption of false leaders. Everyone and everything is connected. The universe flows through everything. Humans will not find the truth—inner peace, heaven, nirvana, enlightenment—until this connection is understood."
In a corner deli, a junkie wearing a dark mask and shakily holding a handgun demanded all the money from the cashier behind the counter. On the security monitor in the corner of the store, the strange woman looked directly at the skittish would-be-robber. Her message stopped him cold in his tracks.
"Look for the light in life, even at its darkest moment. Let it wash over you. Only then will you find solace. For you see, I am not a god any more than you are. I'm only a part of what is all. What we are all. All part of an endless energy."
A burly truck driver hauling a load of cattle in his 18-wheeler somewhere in middle America tried to change the radio station. But the message remained on every channel. He spat out a huge wad of chewing tobacco, turned on his hazard lights, slowed his truck down, and pulled off the interstate.
"Consciousness is infinite. Everything comes from the same energy source. And that source has no physical boundaries, just as death has no finality for the soul. Only fear restricts what is there for humans to accept. Find comfort in knowing that death will bring everlasting knowledge to all of you. And true and everlasting life."
At the Vatican Observatory in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, one of the Jesuit scientists thought he saw something in his VATT (Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope) telescope. When he double-checked his computer monitor, he was startled to see the face of the captivating creature the whole planet was watching. Over the speakers in the observatory, he could not believe what he was hearing.
"You will soon meet beings from other worlds, in other galaxies, from other dimensions, so strange and different from your current three-dimensional existence. And they will share knowledge that exists beyond your known cosmos, beyond time and space."
Meanwhile, at a soccer stadium in the UK, everything stopped—the match, the players, referees, coaches, trainers. Everyone in attendance watched the message from Earth’s mystical visitor on every Jumbotron screen.
"When your world seems as if it is imploding. When all seems hopeless at the apex of despair, they will appear. They will help you accept an expanded view of the universe. Be assured, they understand your anxieties."
The oil tanker had anchored for the evening, the crew enjoying a rare movie night. Imagine their collective surprise to be watching this unexplainable interruption instead of a pirated copy of the latest Hollywood blockbuster film that one of the crew members had purchased in some foreign port town.
"As your current leaders continue to escalate major global crises, the time is close when you must work together. To place the good of all people over the selfish goals of a select few who are rich, drunk on power, and politically corrupt. Their autocratic grip is becoming weaker and weaker."
In a university library in Africa, several students crammed around a recycled computer. The disbelief etched on their faces told only half the story. And while that area of the world where wild animals roamed day and night, it was deafeningly silent. Yet, in that stillness, there was joyous noise in their heads and a sense of purpose and optimism in the message.
"I have left many journals on many websites that will reach millions of users in every language in every country in every corner of your world. No government can stop or censor what is in motion."
A middle-aged gay couple sat on a bench in Central Park, a black Pug at their feet. They stared at the mobile phone one of them was holding. A homeless man shuffled over to them. Without pretense, they invited him to sit and watch the proceedings with them.
"Those of you chosen to lead humankind into a new metaphysical evolutionary paradigm, do not be derailed from your truth. You will find each other, and your collective work will grow exponentially."
Four pre-teen boys sat in a treehouse and adjusted the TV antenna wrapped with tin foil on an old tube television set. Giggling and goofing on each other as they fought to get the best picture, one of the boys accidentally pulled the antenna from the TV. It didn't matter; the strange lady kept speaking to them.
"The human brain can expand its concepts of time and space. And soon enough, humans will reach the stars with their souls. That journey will liberate and inform your future. It is all in front of you. Do not let fear hold you back."
An eastern European soldier missing half his left leg lay in bed in a hospital ward gazing at a computer tablet. Riddled with loss—loss of innocent lives, loss of his community, loss of his innocence—he became diverted from his seemingly hopeless plight by the stranger's tenor and message.
"As your elders once stated: 'The tangible world is movement, not a collection of moving objects, but movement itself. There are no objects in movement, and it is the movement which constitutes the objects which appear to us: They are nothing but movement.' All the energy in the universe continues to move outward and inward."
In an underground war room, several military men, scientists, and political hacks discussed how to shut off the alien feed. On the wall in front of them, all the monitors carried the same image and message. Finally, a technician entered the room and told them what they did not want to hear—somebody had hacked the world's global satellite defense systems. All of them. They had no choice but to watch what was unfolding, powerless to halt the proceedings.
"And to those political pundits watching right now who preach global policing and social order through heavy-handed mandates and intimidation. We can shut off your systems without notice. We can vaporize your war machines. Instead, we will let your evolution of spirit take root. You will find that your policies will soon wither and fade. No one will fear your threats, for they will no longer be necessary."
In the super-sized evangelical church in Texas, the rehearsal for Sunday's global satellite service was suddenly interrupted. The reptilian pastor and his minions could not grasp how a demon had taken over their million-dollar production facility and was magically broadcasting Satan's message in God's House.
"And to those religious zealots who would preach intolerance of other religions. Know that there are many paths to the mountaintop. Christ, Buddha, Allah—it doesn't matter. All consciousness holds one universal truth for all prophets and all people everywhere, now and forever. Love yourself, and you will love those around you. Let your hearts find comfort in knowing that this is a new day, a new dawn for humanity and the world."
A nurse holding a tray of pills dropped them as she thought she had heard this voice before. She fell back into her chair and looked out to the common area of a nursing home in Norway where a dozen octogenarians in various states of physical decline watched slack-jawed from multiple chairs and couches, eyes glued to a jumbo flat-screen TV.
"Some of you won't remember any of this message. Even some of your closest friends may not recall me from this moment forward. Of this, I am certain, yet some of you will carry on the process of your evolution of consciousness. You will be the shepherds and stewards to lead humankind forward. And you will know what other beings in multiple galaxies have always known."
Eight craggily Sherpa guides sat cross-legged in a Nepal hotel lobby in the foothills of the Himalayas. One of them was holding a small portable radio. Bewildered, they listened in the cold silence of their harsh environment. The message from this illuminating guru warmed them to the core.
"There is a gateway that will allow you to move beyond conflicts of violence. The seeds of this knowledge will soon be ready to be cultivated. And eventually, your peaceful ways will be rewarded."
An orphan girl in Iceland sat crying in front of her computer in a small, sparse bedroom, yet no one was there to explain to her. Why would this stranger confuse her with this message? And though she called out for solace, she felt strangely comforted by the stranger's words.
"All has been put into place. This is the way. After this transmission, I will not communicate again."
And just like that, the image of the strange yet galvanizing entity faded into a small dot on every screen, every monitor, every mobile phone, everywhere all over the globe at the same time, and then the dot disappeared into a silver sea of white noise.
Back at the grimy bar in Detroit, the folks looked at each other without speaking, frozen by what they had just witnessed. The bartender broke their silence, telling his customers he'd buy their next round.
Time hiccuped for a split second, only this time many would notice.
