Monday funk, for real, as I started the day with a downer email from the Tribeca Film Festival stating:
"Thank you for submitting your project for consideration for the 2024 Tribeca Festival. Unfortunately, Time: A Hopeful Tale was not selected for this year's program. We realize this isn't the email you were hoping for and there's never an easy way to deliver the news. However, we want you to know that your submission was considered carefully among a record number of submissions this year. We are grateful to have listened to many incredible projects, even if we were not able to include them all in this year's festival."
Ah, the gods of showbiz can be cruel. But I shall endure and continue the forward motion; my shark teeth bared and ready to nash! And I will find a suitable home for my audio short story podcast. (Suggestions welcomed.) It stars the outstanding veteran actor Grainger Hines as the narrator and newcomer Samantha Gibson as the alien. The extraordinary sound EFX were created by Louis Metzner (son of celebrated photographer Sheila Metzner). But I digress…
How do I break my funk? With a funky playlist to lift my battered spirit. If you love to move, you must have some funk in your life. So, here are 12 of my favorite get-off-your-ass-and- jam tunes. I'm blasting it now and can barely type this short rant. It includes Prince ("Sexy Mother Fucker" "), Funkadelic ("One Nation Under A Groove"), Donny Hathaway (uber funky "In The Ghetto"), Ohio Players ("Funky Worm"), Brothers Johnson ("Get The Funk Out Ma Face"), James Brown ("People Get Up and Drive Your Funky Soul"), and more.
It's time to get out from underneath my Monday funk but still keep it funky.
For me, it's "Candy" and "Word Up" by Cameo!
